FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The 1064nm wavelength used for Laser Toning may be suitable for a broader range of skin tones when appropriate treatment parameters are used. Individual assessment is still important, particularly when treating pigmentation or skin with a history of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Yes. Depending on your skin concerns, Laser Toning may form part of a broader treatment plan incorporating treatments such as HydraFacial, microneedling, Pico Laser or other skin therapies. Treatments are appropriately spaced to allow the skin to recover and to minimise unnecessary irritation.
Melasma is a complex and recurrent pigment condition that can be aggravated by heat, UV exposure, hormones and inappropriate or overly aggressive treatment. Laser Toning may be incorporated into a carefully managed melasma treatment plan, but it isn't appropriate for everyone. This is why we require a dermal consultation before commencing treatment.
Laser Toning and IPL use different technologies. Laser Toning uses a specific laser wavelength and may be selected for concerns such as diffuse pigmentation, uneven tone and melasma. IPL uses multiple wavelengths of light and can be particularly useful where pigmentation occurs alongside redness or visible vascular concerns. The best option depends on your skin type and the nature of the pigmentation being treated.
Laser Toning can help improve the appearance of certain types of sun-related pigmentation and uneven skin tone. However, not all pigmentation behaves in the same way. We assess the type, depth and pattern of pigmentation before treatment and may recommend Laser Toning, Pico Laser, IPL or a combination approach.
Both treatments can be used to address pigmentation, but they work differently and may be recommended for different types of pigment. Laser Toning uses a gentle, progressive approach and is often selected for diffuse pigmentation, uneven tone and melasma. Pico Laser delivers ultra-short pulses of energy and may be better suited to more targeted areas of pigmentation. Your skin and pigmentation should be assessed before deciding which treatment is most appropriate.
Yes. Pigmentation can recur, particularly melasma and sun-related pigmentation. Sun protection, appropriate skincare and maintenance treatments can therefore be an important part of long-term management.
Laser Toning may form part of a treatment plan for melasma. However, melasma is a complex and recurrent pigment condition and needs to be managed carefully. We assess your skin, triggers and pigmentation before determining whether laser treatment is appropriate.
