EXCESS FAT & DOUBLE CHIN

Excess fat on the face is most commonly found as a double chin and doesn’t always indicate poor health. Having a double chin can affect people of all ages and weights. A double chin usually centres around skin elasticity and genetics, and can be treated cosmetically. At The White Room Clinic, we offer an extensive approach to reducing your double chin. A host of specialised, non-invasive treatments and therapies and injectables are applied to reduce submental fat and tighten skin in the area.

UNDERSTANDING EXCESS FAT & DOUBLE CHIN

The more common causes of a double chin or excess facial fat include the following:

  • Weight Gain: An increase in body fat can cause the excess fat to accumulate under the chin, causing the area to appear bigger.
  • Genetics: A significant contributor to a double chin is genetics. Some people, although not excessively overweight, may be naturally predisposed to having more fat stored in the facial area. This is because of the overall fat distribution and facial structure.
  • Ageing: The natural ageing process causes skin to lose its elasticity. This happens as a result of a reduction in elastin and collagen, which are the proteins that keep skin tight. Skin then starts sagging, which can make a small double chin look more prominent.
