JAW CLENCHING AND FACIAL SLIMMING

Jaw clenching is the habitual and involuntary clenching and grinding of teeth, usually during sleep. Over time, chronic jaw clenching can lead to overdeveloped masseter muscles. This causes the lower face to appear much wider and can also lead to consistent headaches, jaw pain, and even tooth damage. The professional team at The White Room know how uncomfortable this can be. With this in mind, a treatment plan has been devised to address the specific areas of muscle tension or overactivity that could be leading to facial imbalance. As a non-surgical approach to lower face support, the treatment aims to restore comfort and aesthetic balance.

WHAT CAUSES JAW CLENCHING AND FACIAL SLIMMING?

Sometimes also referred to as Bruxism, jaw clenching can be caused by one of the following:

  • Stress: This is the most common trigger and can also cause the grinding to occur during waking hours.
  • Sleep disorders: Common sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea, involve the body trying to maintain a steady airflow. This can lead to involuntary teeth grinding.
  • Having an abnormal bite: When your bite isn’t aligned, your jaw often overcompensates, leading to excessive tooth grinding.
  • Lifestyle factors: Habits such as smoking, drinking excessive alcohol or caffeine consumption all contribute to Bruxism.
